The Stepping Stone

My Language Goals to Accomplish

Improving a language may take time but if you have goals you'll improve it in no time. As a new intern, my language goals are to enrich my vocabulary, improve my pronunciation and learn new expressions in English.

The Language Learning Strategies

The language learning strategies will help me to accomplish these goals. My first strategy will be the look for patterns in a language; this strategy will help me to correct my grammar, so I will be able to express myself clearly. Second, is to use mnemonic techniques, this will help me to remember new vocabularies that I will learn from my internship. Third, is guessing, most of the time when we don’t understand the word we guess by their gestures and tones of the voice. Fourth, is by practicing the language you want to learn. This strategy will be the best strategy that will help me because as they say “practice makes perfect”. Fifth and the last, is the repetition, the key to help me improve my pronunciation by repeating the words or sentences that I will hear from the native speakers out loud.

My First Meeting with my Internship Host

Two days ago, I finally met my internship host for my English in action internship. Our meeting was quick but informative. She asked me to fill out a form for my credentials. She asked me as well if I wanted to do office work but then I responded that I prefer to work where I can have more interaction with different people. And it happened that their organization has a social club every Wednesday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Then she discussed about it, how does it work and about their past activities. Also as a new intern, she requested that I figure out some ideas that we can do for the month of November.

My Impressions, Concerns and Expectations

My first day isn’t started yet but I already have plans to make my internship productive and fruitful. As a new volunteer member of the Yellow Door, I want to be as helpful and cooperative as possible. In this way I will improve more my knowledge in English language.
